St. Jude Thaddeus is often called the patron saint of “the impossible.” Pray this novena during seasons of struggle, pain, and challenge in your life.

St. Jude Thaddeus, patron of impossible causes, and, therefore, one of the saints to whom believers go the most when asking for help and favor in difficult times.

It is not about Judas Iscariot, the apostle who, according to history, betrayed Jesus, but it is about one of his 12 apostles and therefore one of the most important figures within the Catholic saints.’

His prayer is highly prayed by thousands of people around the world, who say it in times of economic, work, emotional, family, health, and security difficulties, among others.

Who was St. Jude?

St. Jude is the patron saint of hopeless causes and desperate situations. He was one of Jesus’s twelve disciples, though he is only quoted once in the Gospels (see above). While called Judas in the Gospel of John, he is known by Jude to avoid confusion with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus, as John points out in his Gospel.

Tradition holds that while Jesus was still alive, King Abgar of Edessa (modern-day Turkey) was sick with an incurable disease. He wrote Jesus a letter, asking for a miracle. Jesus responded to King Abgar that he would send one of his disciples to heal him. Then, Jesus impressed his face onto a cloth for St. Jude to transport to King Abgar. Upon receiving the cloth, King Abgar was healed. Today, St. Jude is often depicted with the same “image of Edessa” on a medallion around his neck.

Martyrdom & modern popularity

St. Jude continued ministering in Persia and was martyred in Persia alongside St. Simon. The two Saints share the same feast day (October 28th) and are buried together in the crypt beneath St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

He was popularized in prayer for desperate causes in the late 18th century in western Europe. Nowadays, many know St. Jude as the namesake of children’s research hospitals across the United States.

Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle of Christ and glorious Martyr, a great intercessor in all difficult problems.

Today I turn to you with great faith to ask for your generous assistance for I am afflicted and tormented by the lack of economic means.

You who are my beloved saint, my blessed patron and my noble protector welcome my soul and my body, my mind, and my heart.

I, humbly, prostrated before you, I ask by the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, that you cast me a compassionate glance and despise not my heartfelt prayer, so my confidence is not in vain.

You who, in addition to a singular love, were united with links of kinship to the Divine Redeemer Jesus Christ, source of all good, and are a powerful aid of the desperate.

Pray for me my patron saint, my aid, so that, assisted by your precious intercession, I may receive a prompt and efficacious solution for my overwhelming needs.

Make it so that I can obtain urgently needed cash to meet all my expenses, payments, and debts, and have peace of mind and tranquility.

Make it so, I beg you, with the certainty of being heard, that I obtain what I need so much: security and joy, and most of all the ability to serve You in love.

Blessed Saint Jude, I honor you with special affection and devotion, hand me the presence and strength of God.

Protect me in all circumstances, may your help and consolation never cease.

Obtain for me by the grace of the Lord Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, deliverance, prosperity, work, and health; make it so that well-being is installed in my home.

As an expression of my affection and gratitude, I promise you I will promote an authentic devotion to you, and already from this moment, I infinitely give you thanks for all your favors.

Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of difficult cases, of things almost despaired of, Pray for me.

Intercede with God for me that He brings visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of.

Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings.

I promise, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor granted me by God and to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you.
